Once, Oprah Winfrey stated that we are all energetic beings; we are all made up of energy. She was talking with Mehmet Oz, MD, a regular guest on her shows, who described the energetic workings of the human body and energy fields around the body to her audience. They are correct!
As a psychologist and medical intuitive, it’s clear to me that not only are our bodies made of energy, they are also influenced by thousands of subtle energy fields that flow through and around them. These fields could be described as invisible forces that move in and out of all living things. Examples include the beneficial energies from the sun, which affect plants, trees, and literally everybody on the earth, and the energies of your own powerful feelings and thoughts. All of these affect your health.
Energetic Levels of The Body
It is useful to understand that healing takes place on energetic levels of the body. Healing of the physical often comes from thought and feeling. Neurological impulses are stimulated by thoughts and feelings, just as when your body receives a physical impact from someone or something. This could be a burst of thunder in a storm, expression of anger from someone close, or a feeling of deep love one might have toward another.
Also, because your body is not only energetically but also electrically based, it too can influence your feelings; for example, we tend to feel happy when it’s sunny, as well as when someone smiles at us. The sunshine stimulates hormones, and the smile does too. You are literally sensitive to everything, even if not conscious of many of the vibrations around you except those physical things you can see, touch, and smell.
You’ve had the feeling of wanting to remove yourself from someone who is talking about negative things—you may say you don’t want to be “caught up in that negativity.” And when you are with people who are happy and laughing, you are attracted to spending time with them. Thoughts and feelings are like magnets, either attracting or repelling. It is therefore important to practice being aware of yours and others’ thoughts and how they affect you as much as possible.
It isn’t that you need to know others’ thoughts; although often you can sense them, even if only at a subconscious level. You may be more sensitive to the subtle energy of those thoughts than others, but all are affected to one degree or another. Think for example of a collective event, such as a horrendous wartime killing and destruction. This can significantly affect your health, depending upon your response from thoughts about it, watching the news, and listening to others’ comments. There can be fear, hate, blame, and other negative thinking associated.
Thoughts can be very polluting—they are perhaps the worst pollution on earth. It is extra difficult to understand, have compassion, and seek solutions for peace, but also far more important and needed than negative focus.
Also, significantly, you can become healed of physical illnesses—often associated with negative thinking—by changing your thoughts to more positive ones. Napoleon Hill, in his book Think and Grow Rich, wrote that a person becomes what he thinks about all day long. It’s easy to realize that thought produces effects when you look at the manifestations of thought in the lives of people you know and even yourself. Here’s just one example from a client case.
Janice had been worrying about a recurrence of cancer, which had been present in her body for years. She was at her wit’s end when she called and asked for an intuitive-clairvoyant scan of her body. It was clear from this scan that she was energetically healthy at that moment. There were no pockets where cancer was supposed to be hiding (according to a recent blood test, there were markers for cancer, and the doctors had told her that illness must be hiding in her body).
She pointed out that I had told her the same thing—that she was healthy—six months before. Other energetic healers had also told her that she was healthy. Yet the medical community told her she was getting sicker, though nothing showed up other than negative markers in her blood tests.
Interestingly, and coincidentally related, in my degree program at UCLA I participated in a blood-test experiment. This was meant to discover if someone could influence the results of their blood test with thoughts. The first test was performed after I deliberately focused on a negative emotional experience. The blood draw resulted in clumping blood cells and anemia. That same day, in the same lab, I took a second test, after I listened to my favorite music as well as looked at pictures of memories of joy and happy faces. When there was a shift in thought and feeling to a positive outlook, the tester drew more blood. This blood was healthy and there were no clumping cells or anemia!
Healing Thoughts
Thoughts do influence health. Just imagine what they do for your cells, which use your blood as a culture medium for growth. Janine hadn’t been challenging herself to focus on anything positive, not even what she’d been told by the healers she called. She was clinging to the diagnosis of doctors interpreting her blood tests, which led her to believe her body was unhealthy. What if she knew that her thoughts, her negative expectation, a “nocebo,” had influenced the blood tests? What if her doctors knew?!
Janine then talked about her confusing beliefs. She had sought advice from alternative sources, but she chose not to put credence in what they said. She had a preconceived belief that the blood tests were more accurate than what she was hearing. She also feared being judged if she did succumb to the cancer she feared was eating away at her body. She then agreed she could change her thoughts by only accepting suggestions that supported health. This would be a huge step for her. She had always listened to others’ advice. After seeking so many viewpoints, she didn’t know what to believe anymore.
Her energy fields were muddled, and indeed looked as if they also were taking instructions from a myriad of sources. At this point I suggested she take a vacation from all the people who were negating any positive outcome. She would need to begin clearing any negative beliefs that she knew didn’t serve her desire for health. She also needed to begin focusing on the positive input and solutions she was receiving from medical intuitives, body workers, holistic nutritionists, and others she had been seeing.
The negativity that plagued Janine she could change by consciously monitoring those thoughts and feelings. She could focus more on appreciation of things, and those aligned with health, peace, happiness, and a deep sense of well-being. Most clients have used illness as a way to get attention. This was true of Janine as well, and she needed to consider that. When using illness as an attention device, someone has a reason to keep themselves ill.
Janine called one week after our session. She said, she cried for an hour after the session when she realized she had been using illness as a way to get attention. Now it was absolutely essential that she find some place to retreat, whether a healing center or a peaceful room in the house. Doing this during the afternoon, after a day of bustle, is important. In quiet reflection time, positive energy can be called forward, bringing peace and healing by your desire and intention.
You have the ability to create a healing place, wherever you can peacefully, meditatively allow the healing energies that are always flowing from nature. Lighting a candle, reading a poem, gazing upon a flower, or listening to peaceful music can set the stage for meditative respite and energetic transformation to health. Some people are too weak or sick to create their own healing space, and so it is important to be sensitive to their needs and help them find what will bring them a sense of peace, as a way to begin their healing.
