Natural Bathroom Cleaning Recipes That Actually Work

Cleaning Recipes for the Bathroom

These simple homemade cleaning recipes prove that a sparkling home does not require harsh chemicals or complicated ingredients.

Using time-tested staples like tea tree essential oil, vinegar, baking soda, and natural soaps, these formulas help freshen, scrub, deodorize, and disinfect every corner of the house naturally.

From streak-free glass and fresh-smelling bathrooms to unclogged drains and deep-cleaned surfaces, each recipe offers an easy, affordable approach to natural cleaning with ingredients you likely already have on hand.

Tea Tree Wash

The sudsy formula of this tea tree wash will clean and disinfect any surface, including walls, floors, carpets, countertops, toilets, sinks, and toys.

The gentle yet effective combination of Sal Suds soap and tea tree essential oil helps with cleaning dirt, grease, and grime while naturally supporting a cleaner, fresher environment.

Tea Tree Wash Ingredients

2 cups water
1 tablespoon Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds
1 tablespoon tea tree essential oil
A few drops of essential oil for fragrance (optional)

Instructions

Combine the water, Sal Suds, tea tree oil, and a few drops of essential oil for fragrance, if desired, in a spray bottle.

When you’re ready to use it, give the bottle a shake to mix the contents, then spray it on surfaces. Let it sit for a minute to kill microorganisms and then wipe away with a clean, damp cloth.

Glass Spray

The natural acidity of white vinegar helps dissolve oils and residue left behind by hands and dust, while water dilutes the solution enough for effective cleaning without leaving a cloudy film. When paired with a soft cotton cloth and a little polishing, this gentle cleaner leaves glass clear, bright, and streak-free.

It is an inexpensive, non-toxic alternative to many store-bought products and can be mixed in minutes using ingredients most households already have on hand.

Glass Spray Ingredients

1 cup water
1 tablespoon white vinegar

Instructions

Combine water and vinegar in a spray bottle. Spritz onto glass and wipe with a clean cotton cloth. Polish with a clean cloth until completely dry to avoid streaks.

Tea Tree Antibacterial Spritzer

Bathroom odors are often the result of lingering bacteria in the air and on surrounding surfaces. This refreshing antibacterial spritzer uses tea tree essential oil to naturally help combat odor-causing microbes while leaving the room smelling clean and fresh. A quick spray is all it takes to revive stale air.

For an added touch, you can include a few drops of eucalyptus or another favorite essential oil for a bright, uplifting fragrance.

Antibacterial Spritzer Ingredients

1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon tea tree essential oil
2 drops essential oil of your choice, for fragrance (optional)

Instructions

Combine the ingredients in a spray bottle, shake, and spritz as needed.

Tub Scrub

This tub scrub works wonders on porcelain. It’s also effective for cleaning ovens and any surface that requires scrubbing, while disinfecting and leaving a fresh scent. Use a large scrub brush for tubs and a vegetable fiber sponge for pans.

You can adjust the water-to-soda ratio as needed; more baking soda will give you a thicker mixture for ovens, and more water will provide easier coverage on large surfaces like vinyl floors.

Tub Scrub Ingredients

1 cup water
1 cup baking soda
1 tablespoon Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds
1 teaspoon tea tree essential oil

Instructions

Combine the water, baking soda, Sal Suds, and tea tree oil in a wide-mouthed jar and mix well. To use, scoop out a few tablespoons of Tub Scrub and apply the thin paste to surfaces with a cloth. Scrub gently, then wipe clean with a dry cloth.

Drain Fizz

This drain fizz works like a charm to unclog most slow bathroom and kitchen drains.

Hot water melts away grease and soap residue, while the abrasive soda scrubs out and carries away any material lodged in the pipe.

If baking soda and boiling water don’t do the trick, add a few tablespoons of vinegar or lemon juice to help remove grease.

Drain Fizz Ingredients

1/4 cup baking soda
1 full teakettle of boiling water
Optional: 2–3 tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice

Instructions

Pour the baking soda directly into the drain, then follow with boiling water.

Whether you are wiping down countertops, freshening the bathroom, polishing windows, or clearing a slow drain, these natural cleaning recipes make it easy to care for your home without relying on harsh chemicals.

Simple ingredients have been trusted for generations because they work. With just a few basic supplies, you can create an effective cleaning routine that leaves your home feeling fresh, clean, and naturally inviting.
